During the First and Second World Wars, Canadians on the homefront were encouraged to conserve food so that more could be sent to troops overseas. The Canada Food Board was created during the First World War to increase food production and encourage Canadians to eat less sugar, butter, flour, eggs, and meat. Homemakers created new recipes using readily available ingredients and limited supplies. Learn more about the impact of rationing on families during the First and Second World Wars and use a wartime recipe to make a tasty treat you can take home and bake.
